CBASP & CBT
Cognitive Behavioural Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP) . Is considered a highly specialised subtype of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. CBASP looks specifically at how our early relationships influence how we see ourselves and how we relate to others. CBASP sessions focus on changing our relationship with ourselves and others to repair interpersonal trauma, improve symptoms associated with chronic depression and support the formation of meaningful relationships with others.
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) is specifically recommended to address flashbacks, nightmares and intrusive memories which can occur following interpersonal trauma. These symptoms are considered a facet of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex post traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD). TF-CBT uses specific techniques to support you to process your trauma memories so that they no longer unintentionally replay and interfere with your life now.
Interpersonal Trauma occurs when actions from others cause us psychological harm. Experiences such as childhood abuse, childhood neglect, parentification, bullying from others, criticism from others and isolation from others are all interpersonal experiences which cause psychological harm. These experiences can lead us to form unhelpful relationships in adulthood or lead us to have difficulties forming meaningful relationships with others which can impact our private and professional lives. Many people have never considered the impact of their early relationships or even considered them as an interpersonal trauma.
